물건이나 권한, 정보 등을 잘못되거나 해로운 방식으로 사용하는 것. 원래 의도와 다르게 사용하는 것을 의미함.

공식적인 표현이며 'misuse of power'처럼 권한·정보 등에 자주 쓰임. 'abuse'보다 고의성은 약함. 명사와 동사형 모두 사용됨.
