Definition

「アビ」とは、特徴的な鳴き声を持つ水鳥の一種です。口語では「変わり者」や「頭のおかしい人」を指すこともあります。

鳥としてはそのまま使われます。人に対して使うと、冗談っぽく「変わった人」や「ちょっとおかしい人」を意味します。失礼にはなりません。

There are many loons on the lake.

湖にはたくさんの**アビ**がいます。

Loons make a strange, haunting call at night.

**アビ**は夜、不思議で物悲しい鳴き声を出します。
