औपचारिक और अनौपचारिक दोनों संदर्भों में इस्तेमाल होता है। 'indirect speech', 'indirect route', 'indirect effect' आदि में आम है। कभी-कभी टालने या नरमी दिखाने के लिए भी उपयोग करते हैं। 'implicit' से न मिलाएँ।
