Definition
Cuando una máquina, especialmente un motor, está encendida pero no se mueve ni realiza trabajo. También se puede usar cuando una persona no está activa o productiva.

'Idling' se usa mucho con motores ('motor al ralentí'), pero también se aplica a personas o tiempo improductivo. Para máquinas, significa estar encendido sin moverse; para personas, implica inactividad. No confundir con 'idle' como adjetivo.
