'Headmistress' kelimesi özellikle İngiliz İngilizcesinde kadın okul yöneticileri için kullanılır; Amerikan İngilizcesinde cinsiyetsiz 'principal' terimi tercih edilir. Erkekler için 'headmaster' kullanılır.
