物や場所などを神聖なものとして扱ったり、特別に尊ぶこと。宗教的な場面で使われることが多い。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

非常に格式高い文語的な表現で、日常会話ではほとんど使われません。「hallowed ground（神聖な土地）」などの決まった表現で使われることが多いです。「hollow（空の）」と混同しないように注意。
