レバーが回転する支えとなる点。比喩的には、物事の中心や最も重要な役割を担うものや人も指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

理科の用語では主にレバーやてこの'支点'として使われます。比喩では「議論の支点」等、中心人物や核となるものを指します。「pivot」とは全ての場面で同義ではありません。
