इसे भौतिक वस्तुओं (टूटा काँच, मिट्टी के बर्तन) और अमूर्त अर्थ (वाक्य के टुकड़े) दोनों के लिए इस्तेमाल किया जाता है। अक्सर 'of' के साथ ('fragments of glass') आता है। लेखन में, इसका मतलब अधूरा वाक्य भी हो सकता है। 'scraps' (बचे-खुचे) से न मिलाएँ।
