昔の言葉で、道や通りで歩行者を襲って金品を奪う強盗を指します。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
非常に古い表現で、歴史小説や文学作品以外にはほとんど使われません。馬に乗った強盗（ハイウェイマン）とは異なり、歩いて人を襲う強盗です。
