Definition

火がほとんど消えたあとに残る、小さくて赤く光る木炭や薪のかけら。まだ熱を持ち、再び火がつくこともある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

複数形で使われることが多い。炎そのものではなく、“残る熱”“消えかけた感情”など比喩的にも使われる。'glowing embers', 'dying embers'という表現がよく使われる。
