Definition

আইন অনুযায়ী কোনো শিশুর বা ব্যক্তির দায়িত্ব নিয়ে দেখাশোনা বা তত্ত্বাবধান। কখনও পুলিশের হেফাজতে থাকার অর্থেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

সাধারণত আইনি বিষয়ে ব্যবহৃত হয়, বিশেষ করে 'child custody', 'joint custody', 'sole custody'। পুলিশের ক্ষেত্রেও ব্যবহৃত হয়: 'in custody', 'take into custody'। সাধারণ যত্নের সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না।

Examples

The mother has custody of the two children.

মায়ের কাছে দুই সন্তানের **অভিভাবকত্ব** আছে।

The suspect is now in police custody.

সন্দেহভাজন এখন পুলিশের **হেফাজতে** আছে।

The court gave the father full custody.

আদালত বাবাকে সম্পূর্ণ **অভিভাবকত্ব** দিয়েছে।

They're still arguing over custody, even after the divorce was finalized.

তারা এখনও **অভিভাবকত্ব** নিয়ে ঝগড়া করছে, ডিভোর্সের পরেও।

The police took him into custody after the fight.

পুলিশ মারামারির পর তাকে **হেফাজতে** নেয়।
