Definition

珊瑚是生活在海中的小型動物，羣居並建構堅硬多彩的礁體結構。人們也用「珊瑚」稱呼這些礁體本身。

「珊瑚」幾乎總是指珊瑚羣體或其形成的自然結構，不會指單一生物。常與「礁」、「海洋」、「熱帶」等詞一起用，不可與「合唱團（choral）」或顏色「珊瑚」混淆。
