Definition

何かを勝ち取るために競争したり、困難や相手に対抗して努力すること。

ニュースやフォーマルな場面でよく使われます。「～と争う」「～のために競う」といった形で使われ、日常会話ではあまり使われません。

Several teams are contending for the championship this year.

今年は複数のチームが優勝を**争っています**。
