어떤 부분을 눌러서 더 좁거나 작게 만드는 것. 주로 근육이나 혈관, 공간이 좁아질 때 사용함.

주로 의학이나 과학적 맥락에서 쓰이며, '혈관이 수축한다'나 '근육이 조여진다'는 상황에 흔히 사용됨. 일상적인 조임에는 잘 쓰이지 않음.

The snake constricts its prey before swallowing it.
