努力の末に最終的に獲得・達成すること。また、格闘技などで相手をしっかり組みつくこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

『clinches the title』『clinches the deal』のように、決定的な勝利や取引成立に使われる。組みつく意味は、主に格闘技やスポーツで使う。日常会話で「しっかり持つ」という意味では使わない。
