誰かや何かに、他の人の名前を名誉や伝統として付けること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に赤ちゃん、ペット、場所などを誰かの名前に因んで名付ける時に使います。「name after」もアメリカ英語でよく使われます。「call back」（折り返し電話をする）と混同しないでください。
