Definition

등반에서 동료가 추락하지 않도록 밧줄로 안전하게 지지해 주는 것. 또는 밧줄로 단단히 묶는다는 뜻도 있다.

주로 클라이밍(등반)에서 사용하는 용어. 일상에서는 거의 안 씀. 'belay rope', 'belay partner', 'belay station' 등으로 자주 쓰임.

He will belay his friend while she climbs the wall.
