常見搭配有 'avoid + noun'（如 'avoid sugar'）和 'avoid + -ing'（如 'avoid driving at night'）。它常比 'prevent yourself from' 更自然，可表示身體上遠離、社交上迴避某人，或防止問題發生，如 'avoid an accident'。後面不用不定詞，要說 'avoid doing'，不能說 'avoid to do'。
