Definition

ノックや物音がしたとき、誰がいるかを尋ねるときの表現です。

ノックジョーク（「Knock, knock」）でも使う決まり文句。「どなたですか」は丁寧、「誰ですか」はややカジュアルです。書き言葉では使いません。

He knocked and said, "Who's there?"

彼はノックして「**どなたですか**？」と言った。

When I'm home alone and hear a noise, I ask, "Who's there?"

家で一人のときに物音がしたら、「**どなたですか**？」と尋ねる。
