とてもくだけた、きわめて失礼な言い方で、驚きや困惑、信じられない気持ちを表すときに使います。何かが予想外だったり、意味が分からなかったりする時に使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

極めて失礼で下品な表現なので、親しい友人同士などごくカジュアルな場でのみ使うこと。目上の人や公的な場では絶対に使わないこと。『what the hell』『what on earth』も類似語。
