상대방이 거짓말일 수도 있지만 공정하게, 또는 호의적으로 믿어주는 것.
Usage Notes (Korean)
공식적, 비공식적으로 모두 사용. 'give someone the benefit of the doubt'는 상대방을 믿어주는 의미다. 명백한 거짓에는 사용하지 않는다.
