相手の許可を待たずに、自分で何かを行うことを丁寧に表す表現です。親切や配慮から行動する場合によく使います。

メールやフォーマルな場で使用され、『勝手ながら〜しました』『失礼ながら〜します』などの形が一般的です。カジュアルな場ではあまり使いません。
