무엇인가에서 잘라내거나 쪼갠 가늘고 얇은 조각. 주로 나무, 유리, 음식 등에 사용된다.

나무의 경우 '가시', 음식 등엔 '얇은 조각' 표현이 자연스럽다. 일상 대화에서는 나무 조각에 '가시'란 표현을 더 많이 쓴다.

There were slivers of glass all over the floor.
