Definition

কাউকে এত জোরে শব্দ করা যে সে পরিষ্কার শুনতে পারে না, কখনও কখনও স্থায়ী বা অস্থায়ীভাবে শুনতে না পাওয়া।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

অধিকাংশ সময়ে passive voice-এ ('was deafened') ব্যবহৃত হয়। হঠাৎ এবং খুব জোর শব্দ বর্ণনায় আলাপ। 'দুর্ঘটনার শব্দে deafened' এরকম 'by' + শব্দের সাথে বেশি দেখা যায়।

কনসার্টের উচ্চ স্বরে সংগীতের জন্য তিনি **বধির** হয়ে গিয়েছিলেন।

The explosion deafened everyone nearby.

বিস্ফোরণে আশেপাশের সবাই **বধির** হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

She was temporarily deafened after the fire alarm went off.

ফায়ার অ্যালার্ম বাজার পরে সে অস্থায়ীভাবে **বধির** হয়ে গিয়েছিল।

The cheers from the crowd almost deafened me during the game.

ভিড়ের চিৎকারে খেলা চলাকালীন আমি প্রায় **বধির** হয়ে গিয়েছিলাম।
