"डार्क हॉर्स" वह व्यक्ति या टीम है जिससे जीत की उम्मीद नहीं होती लेकिन वह सबको चौंका सकता है। इसका अर्थ ऐसे व्यक्ति से भी है जिसकी प्रतिभा या सफलता को ज्यादा लोग नहीं जानते।

मुख्यतः खेल, प्रतियोगिता या चुनाव में प्रयोग होता है। आमतौर पर अंडरडॉग या गुमनाम प्रतिभा के लिए। प्रसिद्ध व्यक्ति के लिए नहीं कहते। आम उपयोग: 'dark horse बन गया'।
