特派員とは、新聞やテレビ、ラジオのために各地からニュースや情報を伝える人です。たいていは記者やジャーナリストです。

主に報道・メディアで使うフォーマルな言葉です。『海外特派員』『戦争特派員』『主任特派員』などの表現がよく使われます。『correspondence』（手紙のやりとり）とは区別しましょう。
