誰かに大事な知らせ、特に悪いまたは驚くべきニュースを伝えること。よく大切なことを報告する時に使う表現。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に大切・衝撃的なニュースを伝える時使う。普段の情報や軽い話には使わない。「break the news to 人」で「人に伝える」の意味になる。
