今まさに何かをしようとしている、すぐに何かが起こりそうな状態。

フォーマルやや堅い表現で、動作がすぐ始まることを強調します。英語と同様に'-ing'や「しようとする」と組み合わせます。過去の出来事には使いません。

She was on the point of crying when the teacher comforted her.
