Essa expressão significa estar participando ativamente de um jogo ou competição. Também pode ser usada no sentido figurado para mostrar que alguém está envolvido ou ainda tem chance em uma situação.

'In the game' pode ser literal (jogos, esportes) ou figurado (ainda envolvido numa situação). Muito usado em esportes e negócios. Não confundir com 'on the game', que tem outro significado. Costuma aparecer em frases como 'still in the game' (ainda tem chance).
