期待通り、特に都合の悪いことや予想外のことが起こった時に使うカジュアルな表現です。

話し言葉でよく使われ、予想外や皮肉な状況で文の冒頭に「案の定」「やっぱり」と挟むのが自然です。フォーマルな文書では使いません。
