軍閥とは、軍事力や私設軍隊を持ち、混乱期や政府が弱い状況で地域を支配する有力な指導者を指します。

主に歴史や政治、不安定な地域の話で使われ、否定的または中立的なニュアンスがあります。正規軍の指揮官には使いません。「対立する軍閥」「地域を支配する軍閥」などと組み合わせます。
