যখন কোনো বিষয়ে নিশ্চিত তথ্য না থাকলে ভবিষ্যৎ বা ঘটনাপ্রবাহ নিয়ে ভাবনা বা অনুমান করা হয়, সেটাই হলো জল্পনা। এটি অর্থনৈতিক বিষয়ে ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ ব্যবসায়িক কাজকর্মকেও বোঝাতে পারে।
