地球の大部分を覆う、とても広大な塩水のこと。海岸から離れた広くて深い水域も指すことがある。

日常会話や地理でよく使われる。「海洋」は「海」より規模が大きく深いことを指す。例：'太平洋' 'オーシャンを越えて'など。
