Definición

あるものが別のもののすぐ隣にあることを表します。また、比喩的に「ほとんど」「ほぼ」という意味でも使われます。

物理的な位置を示す場合が多いですが、比喩的な表現（例：'next to impossible'＝ほとんど不可能）にも使われます。「beside」や「near」とはニュアンスが異なり、すぐ隣にいる強調があります。

The library is next to the post office.

図書館は郵便局の**隣に**あります。

She sat next to her friend in class.
