‘উদ্ভিদ’ বলতে শরীরের কোনো অস্বাভাবিক গিঠি বা পিন্ড বোঝায়, আবার কোনো কিছুর আকার বা সংখ্যা বাড়লে সেটাকেও বলা হয়।

চিকিৎসা ভাষায় যেমন ‘benign growths’ বলতে নিরীহ গিঠি বোঝানো হয়। সাধারণত বহুবচনে ব্যবহৃত হয়। 'growth' (পরিবৃদ্ধি) এর সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না।
