誰かに挨拶をしたり、最低限の関心を示すこと。ただし、多くの場合はまったく無視する意味で使われます。

カジュアルな表現で、否定形で使うと『完全に無視する』というニュアンス。例: "wouldn't give me the time of day" = 完全に無視された。
