Muito usado em instruções: 'fill in the blank', 'fill in your name', para formulários. Como 'substituir', é informal, por exemplo: 'Can you fill in for me?'. Não confunda com 'fill up' (encher totalmente) ou 'fill out' (em inglês americano, por vezes igual a 'fill in' para formulários).
