物事が予想外に悪い方向に進み、こんな結果になってしまったときに驚きや残念さを表す表現です。思いがけない事態や困った状況で使います。

主に悪い出来事やショックな展開に使う。『まさかこんなことになるとは』の形などで感情を込めて言う。前向きな内容にはあまり使われません。
