Definición

怖くなって、直前で何かをやめてしまうこと。

かなりくだけた言い方で、挑戦や賭けの場面でよく使われる。「Don’t chicken out!」は「ビビるな！」などと訳される。フォーマルな場には適さない。

He almost jumped, but he chickened out at the last second.

彼は飛び降りそうになったが、最後の瞬間に**怖気づいた**。
