To become completely dry, or to make something become completely dry, by removing all moisture. It can also mean stopping drinking alcohol after having a problem with it.

Often used for things that were wet, especially clothes, ground, or food. Informally, can also mean to stop drinking alcohol, especially after addiction. Common collocations: 'let it dry out', 'the riverbed dried out'. Not the same as 'dry off' (surface only) or simply 'dry' (neutral).
