Definition

綿や亜麻などの植物にできる、成熟すると割れて中に種子と繊維が入っている丸い実のこと。

主に農業や植物学の分野、特に綿の実『cotton boll』を指す際によく使われます。「ボール (球)」や「ボウル(器)」とは異なるので注意しましょう。

The cotton boll is ready to pick.

綿の**さや**は収穫の準備ができています。
