Usage & Nuances

Commonly used for restless children or people unable to stay still due to boredom or nervousness. Can be used as both a verb ('to fidget') and noun ('a fidget'). Often followed by 'with' plus an object: "fidget with a pen". Different than 'squirm' (more about body movement), and not as strong as 'twitch'.
