Esta expresión es muy enfática y coloquial, usada para hablar de una sorpresa extrema, generalmente negativa (un susto), pero a veces positiva. Se usa comúnmente con 'dar' o 'llevarse': 'dar el susto de tu vida', 'llevarte el susto de tu vida'. No se usa para sorpresas leves.
