Definition

誰かが悪いことや違法なことをしたかもしれないと考えるが、まだ証拠はない状態。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

通常「〜を疑う」と目的語が後に続きます。警察やニュースなど、ややフォーマルな場面でよく使われます。「suspect on」や「suspect for」とは言いません。「suspect him of stealing」のように動詞-ing形と共に使います。

The police suspect her of stealing the money.

He was suspected of lying to his boss.
