誰かをとても恥をかかせて、周りの人がその人を笑いものにしたり、真剣に受け取らなくなること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

ややフォーマルで、公の場での大きな恥を指すことが多い。'try to'や受け身形（was made a laughingstock of）と一緒に使われる。友人同士の軽い冗談には使わず、名誉に本当の損害がある時に使う。
