誰かの面倒を見る、特に経験が浅い人や年下の人を守ったり導いたりすること。

ややフォーマルで励ますような表現です。“take (someone) under your wing”は後輩や新しい人をサポート・指導するときによく使われます。実際の「翼」とは関係ありません。

My teacher took me under her wing in my first year at school.
