誰かにひそかに情報や警告を伝えること。特に何かが起こる前や危険について知らせるときに使う。

くだけた表現で、警察や犯罪など秘密の情報を伝える場面でよく使う。「tip-off（名詞）」は密告された情報そのもの。'tip someone off about...' の形や 'get a tip-off' の表現で使う。

Someone tipped off the police about the robbery.

誰かが警察に強盗について**密告した**。
