التعريف

周りの土地よりも急に高くそびえ立つ、とても大きな天然の地形。丘よりも大きくて高い。

大きな自然の地形に使います。「山に登る」「山の上」などが典型的な表現。「a mountain of work」のように大量を表す比喩にも使われます。丘（hill）はもっと低い場合です。

That mountain is very high.

あの**山**はとても高いです。

We can see the mountain from our house.

私たちの家から**山**が見えます。

They climbed the mountain last summer.

彼らは去年の夏に**山**に登りました。

After five hours on the trail, the mountain still looked impossibly far away.
