追いかけられても捕まらずに逃げること。または、何かが理解できない、思い出せないときにも使います。

主に書き言葉やフォーマルな場面で使われます。「elude capture」（捕まらずに逃げる）や「the answer eludes me」（答えが思い出せない）のように使います。「avoid」と違い、相手が頑張っても逃げ切るニュアンスや、どうしても理解できないもどかしさが含まれます。
