'Dumpster' शब्द आमतौर पर उत्तरी अमेरिका में इस्तेमाल होता है; ब्रिटेन में इसे 'skip' कहते हैं। 'dumpster diving' का मतलब है कचरे से काम की चीजें ढूँढना। आम बातचीत में बहुवचन में ही आता है।
